Description

This one pot zesty steak pasta is a quick, flavor-packed dinner made with tender steak, bold tomato sauce, and pasta cooked all in one pan.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Steak (sirloin or flank), thinly sliced
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Paprika
  • Olive oil and  butter
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups pasta (penne or fusilli)
  • 1.5 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 2.5 cups beef or chicken broth
  • Carrots, cut into strips
  • Red bell peppers, cut into strips
  • Yellow bell peppers, cut into strips
  • Shredded cheese (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Sear the Steak

In a large skillet or pot, heat a drizzle of oil and a knob of butter over medium-high heat. Add the steak strips and sear them until browned on all sides.

Strips of seasoned beef are being seared and browned in a hot, black skillet.

Step 2: Add the Vegetables

Once the steak is seared, add the sliced onions and minced garlic to the same skillet. Sauté them with the steak until fragrant. Then, stir in the sliced carrots, red bell peppers, and yellow bell peppers, and continue to cook until the vegetables begin to soften.

Sliced yellow bell peppers, red bell peppers, and carrots are being added to a pan containing seared steak strips and onions.

Step 3 : Assemble the Dish

Add the tomato paste to the mixture and stir well to coat the steak and vegetables. Then, stir in the uncooked pasta, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

A gloved hand pours a thick red tomato sauce from a glass bowl into a pan of cooked steak strips and sautéed vegetables.

Step 4 : Cook the Pasta

Pour the beef broth into the skillet, enough to cover the pasta. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer. Stir occasionally until the pasta is al dente and the sauce has reduced and thickened.

A clear bowl pours uncooked penne pasta into a black pan filled with cooked steak strips, vegetables, and tomato sauce.

A light-colored liquid broth is being poured from a measuring cup into a pan, submerging the uncooked pasta, steak, and vegetables.

Step 5 : Serve

Once the pasta is cooked, serve immediately. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle shredded cheese on top just before serving.

A spatula stirs a pan of cooked penne pasta, steak strips, and sliced bell peppers, all coated in a thick, savory tomato sauce.

Notes

  • Use gluten-free pasta if needed and check broth labels.
  • Add spinach or bell peppers for more veggies.
  • Cream cheese or heavy cream can be stirred in at the end for a creamy twist.
